and the work that keeps me up with an incessant vibrating of plot and character concepts that feel more like a flood, a rampant code filling a screen with zeroes and ones, that cannot be contained in the pages of just one book, but a trilogy—and possibly short stories, but that’s my brain running away again. This string of consciousness is less about me, it seems, and more about the novel I have concocting within the confines of my workshop, safely secured and concealed.
Featuring a wide breath of world building, The Last Alchemist: Book of Gold is a science fiction novel that’s been crafted as a love letter to the things I enjoy the most. An alchemical creation of science, magic, and a unique setting all fitted with the trappings of a heroes journey— where the stakes are the difference between a world able to nurture humanity beneath lush boughs, or suffocation wrought by stygian skies.
The story takes place within a city known as an ArcaDiisk. Named for the its circular structure, and the hopes that it would be a limitless paradise, they are humanity’s last defense against the harsh elements of the outside world. Like any city, class and creed make up the formula that dictates which rung of society you are bound to. Vaughn is no different. And he’s no different in that he dreams of a life beyond the cold slums of the Diisk. With hard work, one can climb societies ladder—but what happens when it’s all derailed?
I look forward to posting more information and updates on the progress of this body of work and my road to publishing.
